To install The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus, simply double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

DirectX
-------
The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus requires DirectX 9.0c or higher to be installed on your system. You can download the latest version of DirectX at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx.

OVERVIEW
--------
The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus is a powerful tool that lets you create unique design elements that you can use to personalize your environments in The Sims 2. You can create custom content such as floor tiles, wall coverings and ground cover -- and then combine them in new ways for endless variety.

QUICK Tutorial
--------------
The first thing you will see after The Sims 2 HomeCrafter finishes loading is the main menu. Here you will select the type of content you wish to develop. After selecting wall coverings, flooring or ground cover, you will be taken to the Browse screen.

From the Browse screen, you have the option to:
* Create New Content -- Creates a new piece of content based on a bitmap (.BMP) image of your choosing.
* Edit Selected Content -- Allows you to make changes to an existing piece of content. This will permanently replace the existing pattern with your new changes.
* Clone Selected Content -- Makes a copy of an existing piece of content. This will create a new pattern based off the selected content.
* Delete -- Permanently deletes the selected content from The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus and The Sims 2 catalogs.
* Package to File -- Creates an installable file that you can share with your friends. Your custom content will be packaged and saved to your computer’s desktop.

Create New Content: Upon selecting Create New Content, you will be taken to a screen where you will select the .BMP image on which you wish to base your new content. There are different requirements for this image based on the type of content you're creating.

To get you started, we've included a template BMP for each kind of content. All BMPs must have a width or height less than 65,536 pixels and be larger than 1 pixel by 1 pixel.
* Wall Coverings -- BMPs should be in 24 or 32 bit color. Wall coverings should be twice as tall as they are wide, and the dimensions should be in powers of 2. For example, a good wall proportion is 256x512.
* Flooring -- BMPs should be in 24 or 32 bit color. The dimensions for floor tiles should be square in proportion, and in powers of 2. For example, 256x256, or 512x512.
* Ground Cover -- BMPs should be in 24 or 32 bit color. The dimensions should be in powers of 2. (For example, 256x256). Please note that the 3D Preview window and the game mirror the texture when applying it to the ground.

Preview: After selecting to edit or clone an existing piece of content, or after selecting a texture for new content, you will be taken to the preview screen. Here, a 3D preview window displays how your content will look in the game.

Camera Control:
You can use the mouse or the camera buttons to change your view.
To control the camera with your mouse, click and drag the Left mouse button to rotate the view. Click and drag the Right mouse button to zoom.
To rotate the view using keyboard shortcuts, press '<' and '>' (Also shown on the keyboard as the comma ',' and period '.' keys.)
To zoom in using keyboard shortcuts, press '+' (zoom in) and '-' (zoom out).
To recenter the camera, press the "Reset Camera" button or click and drag the Left and Right mouse buttons at the same time.

Editing Content: To make changes to the texture at this point, find the texture files on your computer's hard drive (the file's location is displayed in the file path window) and edit them in your favorite graphics editor. Paint on the texture files to your artistic heart's content.
To see how your custom content will look in the game, save the texture files and hit the Refresh button to update the preview window with the changes. You can do this as many times as you want, and you don't even have to close your paint program to do it. Just save the files, switch to The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus, click Refresh, and see how it all looks in the preview window.
When you're satisfied with how your content looks, take a look at the right half of the screen. This side is where you will define other features for your content, such as catalog name, price, and description. Each type of content has its own data fields to fill out.

Wall Coverings: Give the wall a name, description and set a price. The subsort choice determines where you will find the wall pattern in the game.

Flooring: Give the floor a name, description and set a price. The subsort choice determines where you will find the tile in the game. Tile repeat determines how the pattern will stretch across multiple tiles. A 1x1 tile means that your image will cover one tile. A 2x2 tile means that the same image will be stretched over a total of 4 tiles. The sound type determines the sound your Sims make when walking across this type of floor.

Ground Cover: Give the ground cover a name and description. All ground cover in the game has a cost of 1 simoleon. The sound type determines the sound your Sims make when walking across this type of ground.

Import to Game: When you're satisfied with your content, just hit the import button. Then run The Sims 2 and look for your new content in the subsort you set!

Thanks for playing The Sims 2! Have fun with The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus!
