My thoughts exactly. But who will do the testing?

I may be reading too much into the information that has been provided about Sims3, but what I see is a base game that is played as a whole-world scene, but you only control a single family, until one of your sims decides to move out, then you can chose which family branch to go with.
That's fine.
Next, your own sims family can interact and be interacted with by other sims that YOU don't control. An AI function controls these NPC-type sims.
Okay.
What this does is create the possibility of a future expansion of Sims3 with MULTIPLAYER functionality.
Even if this was not in the original design brief for the new game, it is there, nevertheless.

Just letting my imagination have a little free reign, but what if I'm right?

Personally I very much hope I'm completely and utterly wrong. The Sims games give you control (mostly) of your sims. Multiplayer would take away your control in a BIG way

It does say "no multiplayer", but who knows what is around the corner.

I am thinking "playing 1 sim will get boring".

Most companies can get creative with their promises if they can increase profits  . But I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.
Playing one player would be interesting for one or two days maximum, I'm thinking, but I "think" in Sims3 you control the whole family? If someone leaves home (for Uni, marriage, etc) you can choose if you stay with the original family or transfer your control to the new branch.
Still, it's very early days, and there would have to be expansion packs of some kind (otherwise little new profit).
Which is why I'm thinking we should steer EA away from even considering multiplayer sims. Other players can do a lot of harm to your sims; just look at what happens in existing multiplayer games when a nasty player decides to go on a rampage against other players.

I have never played multiplayer games. But knowing human nature, I am guessing it is not pretty. :)

Maxis/EA did the whole online thing with sims online and it bombed bad so i'm not sure if they are ready to try that again. From everything I've read i have visioned the sims 3 as being somewhat openended like an elder scrolls game. Free roaming and you can do mostly what you want to. That would be most awesome but i'm not really sure what their aim is ATM. Just have to wait and see when they release more info and screenshots (and hopefully some more detailed preview videos than they gave us in freetime).
